Needs Statement

Physical, mental and psychological impairments following critical illness or injury are common and labeled as the “post-ICU syndrome (PICS).”  As the epidemiology of critical care evolves, PICS will likely be a major component of in-hospital and post-ICU care. The identification of risk factors and the creation of institutional as well as regional multi-disciplinary care teams will be imperative to reduce the prevalence of PICS.
