Needs Statement

Transplantation is a unique therapeutic option for patients with end organ disease. The pharmacotherapy involved in the treatment of the transplant patient is often challenging. Immunosuppressive agents used have narrow therapeutic indices and have the potential for long term toxicity. More and more patients are transplanted every year. Community pharmacists will encounter this patient population at some point in their career. This program is designed to educate pharmacists on some of the common transplant related medication regimens and common complications.

Target Audience

Pharmacists

Objectives

1. Describe common medication regimens and complications seen in transplant patients and;
2. Discuss insurance and financial issues with transplantation.
