Needs Statement
The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy utilizes pharmacy practitioners as teachers in the experiential education program. These individuals are termed preceptors and usually supervise the educational experience of one or two students at a time in the practice facility where the preceptor works. These experiences take place throughout the curriculum with the greatest concentration in the last year. To effectively discharge this responsibility, preceptors need to understand the expectations of the curriculum, particularly since competency based assessment is being emphasized. They also need to review basic strategies to organize and provide a good learning experience at the site. Accreditation standards for pharmacy education also require orientation and training of preceptors for their teaching role.Target Audience
