Needs Statement
This lecture is an overview of common child and adolescent psychiatric issues encountered in the primary care setting. The main focus is on depression, suicidal ideation (with and without self-injurious behavior), and bipolar disorder. The symptoms, preferred treatments and side effects of these treatments are discussed. Case studies are used to illustrate the varying presentations of these common problems.Target Audience
This activity is intended for primary care physicians.Objectives
1. Review common psychiatric issues in primary care setting;2. Learn “clinical pearls” to address these issues;
3. Learn about treatment options and available resources;
4. To better understand psychopharmacology & associated medical issues.
