Needs Statement
Asthma is the most common chronic medical condition in children. According to the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP), Asthma is under diagnosed and inadequately treated in a large proportion of both pediatric and adult patients. In 2008, the NAEPP has released a new set of guidelines for the Evaluation and Management of Asthma. The aim of this program is to familiarize the primary care provider with the new guidelines which emphasize asthma control.Target Audience
Primary Care Physicians / nurse-practitioners who take care of asthma including pediatricians, internists, family practice physicians and emergency care physicians.Objectives
1. Discover how best to diagnose asthma;2. Outline the new NIH guidelines for the assessment of asthma severity and asthma control;
3. Review the pharmacology of asthma therapy – and the recommended stepwise approach to achieve asthma control;
4. Review the importance of Asthma Education in improving asthma control.
