Needs Statement
Patients and families can feel dissatisfaction with their medical care secondary to the physician’s failure to relate to the patient’s perspective. This can occur with no error in medical management from a biomedical perspective. Training physicians about Patient Centered Care should improve the physician’s ability to develop a medical plan that meets the patient and family expectations while meeting the patient’s medical needs. Objectives
- Define patient centered care (PCC) and state differences between PCC and Biomedical Model
- Identify a critical incident and apply concepts of PCC, to improve future clinical interactions with patients and families
- Identify three perspectives of PCC
- Integrate the eight Kleinman’s Questions into clinical practice
